Chernihiv prima with a starting price of 99 cents is being offered in Ukraine on e Bay Shipping in $89, cgi.ebay.com/UKRAINIAN-BANDURA-With-national-ornament_W0QQitemZ7382201930QQcategoryZ623QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemI like the story that goes with this instrument. Bandura! National Ukrainian Musical Instument! It was made in Chernihiv's Factory of musical instruments 25 years ago! It was used by well - known bandura-player in Ukraine. His name was Smirnitskiy. He played in the national orchestra of Ukraine. This man told me about history of his family. His grandfather was subjected to repression in firs half of 20 century on the instructions of Stalin. He was in a number of 300 bandura-players who were collected in Kharkov on congress of musicians. All of them were blinds - because traditionally bandura-players were blinds, walked on villages with boys-leaders and sang songs to the peasants. These 300 bandura-players were exiled in Siberia. Smirntskiy, as a descendant of great master, carried love to the music through through life. This bandura belonged to him. It has 55 strings! Bandura has all 55 strings! Bandura is well-tuned. It has some cracks on its bottom! There are invory insertions on bandura's top! There's wonderful ukrainian ornament on it. Bandura is in leather case. Have a nice bidding! It's nice presуnt for New Year! And great exhibit in your collection!

Another Chernihiv prima. This one from 1965. Keep in mind that the factory in Chernihiv that manufactured these banduras closed in 1991. The 1960 banduras have a richer sound and are lighter because of tighter quality control, better materials and workmanship. This one is priced at $450 with a $70US shipping cost cgi.ebay.com/Bandura-Antique-Chernihivka-ca-1965-Ukrainian-harp_W0QQitemZ7381644759QQcategoryZ623QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemThe write up states This is a stringed instrument known as a bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine. This particular bandura is the standard non-mechanism make of the Chernihiv Instrument Workshop, which has been the most popular bandura model over the past twenty some years. The instrument is in prime condition, made in the mid-sixties, and does not appear to have been played much. I discovered this instrument in L'viv, where it was in storage most of its lifetime. A Chernihivka of its age, in such good condition is very rare. The instrument has no cracks or faults. These instruments are very popular by bandurists today, mostly because of their availability and low cost. It makes a good student instrument, as the instrument is very built up, to avoid caving in or collapsing under the instruments string tension. Compared to other Chernihivkas made between 1975 to 2000, these older banduras are much lighter (around 2.5 kgs) and much more resonant, due to a less dense wood used (willow), and the fact that the wood has dried more over the years. Not only is this instrument valuable due to its resonant tone, but also for its collectors value due to its age and good condition.
