Vasyl' Nechepa won the coveted Taras Shevcehnko Award for 2006.
Nechepa's performances are based on the are of Chernihiv kobzar Tereshko Parkhomenko. Nechepa has a bandura similar to the one that Parkhomenko used (only with a simple method of retuning the strings, and also plays the lira just as Parkhomenko did.
Currently Nechepa is writting a book on the history of the bandura focussing on the contribution of the Chernihiv kobzars and on the contribution of bandura maker Kornievsky.
Nechepa retains the traditional method of playing on this instrument which often puts him up against those accademic performers who find this authentic method of playing not sophisticated.
